GENESIS 11 IN FOCUS
THINK ABOUT IT
Why do we see disintegration among people?
Why can’t we live in harmony?
Who begins the contentions?
how can we be united?
What is the problem?
They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
See how sad it is to see married couples fight each day. See how pathetic it is to notice apathy in the workplace. See how sorrowful it is to realize two people created by the same God war against themselves. Unity is strength. Unity is mighty. The great world trade center tower was not build by the strength of one man but by the united strength of many men.
All the people were in one accord towards purpose and they could do mighty things. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.” where has unity gone to? When will the people unit towards a common great purpose; fighting poverty, hunger, disease, encouraging themselves towards living purposefully?
United we stand, divided we fall as the saying goes. The home, the business, the community, the nation need unity for progress. Where is unity?
The apostle Paul admonished the Romans in his letter to them ”
7 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
PONDER: I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 1 Corinthians 1: 10
