GENESIS 22 IN FOCUS
THINK ABOUT IT:
When examinations are approaching, what do you do?
Have you ever written examinations before?
What trials do you often meet in life?
How do you feel when you lose something that is so precious to you?
He had been waiting for this son for years. When the son had arrived, Abraham was asked to sacrifice his only legitimate son, Isaac. Alas! Wherein lies the joy in giving someone something and denying him of the same thing again? But it was for a purpose.
Abraham acted in wisdom. He did not tell Isaac that he was the lamb to be sacrificed. This could have raised lots of contentions. As far as Abraham wanted to pleased God and do what was right in the sight of God, he also respected his family.
It was an arduous errand to walk for three days only to go and sacrifice his only legitimate son. But Abraham never hesitated to obey God. After all He was the one who gave the son to him (Abraham)
The Lord seek for a sacrifice from us today in our generation. A sacrifice of true worship. ‘’God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
We do not necessarily have to worship God out of our comfort but in the moment of trials and temptations too, we ought to prove our true service to God.
‘ And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast’ 1 Peter 5: 10
We ought to endeavor to go through trials and temptations with diligence and tenacity knowing that God will not leave us nor forsake us.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
God showed Abraham a way. Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.
PONDER: how can you cast away what hinders you from obeying the will of God?
