Isaac gets a wife. God provides

prayer 2

 GENESIS   24   IN     FOCUS

Obedience is good. Obedience opens doors. Obedience can make the common man an uncommon man. Obedience to God does not only grant us what we want, but  it also makes our ways awesome.

Abraham had obeyed God. He believed in God even in trying times.  He knew that God was his provider. When he was being offered goodies, he denied, knowing that God was his provider.

Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the LORD God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth, 23that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, for fear you would say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’

He knew God would do it for his son too. For what reason(s) would God deny His children of their needs. Yes! their needs! what do you want? what do you need?  Paul said  But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

The only thing you  ought to do is this: ‘Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8“For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.…’

It is written,  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.’

Abraham asked and believed God shall provide for his son with the right motive. He asked in faith.

‘The Lord, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring[a] I will give this land’—he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there’

What do you seek from God? What faith is behind what you ask from God? Do you know the God you serve?

The hymn writer John H. Sammis (1846-1919), who gave up his life as a businessman and part-time YMCA worker for the full time work of God, ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1880 wrote:

When we walk with the Lord
  In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
  While we do His good will,
  He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise,
  Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
  Not a doubt or a fear,
  Not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

PONDER:        What God do you serve? what faith do you have in the God you serve?
