a sign to go; Isaac and Rebekah

prayer 2

GENESIS     24   IN        FOCUS

May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

THINK ABOUT IT

Why do you do what you do each day?

what gives you the reason to do what you do each day?

what do you want in life?

what do you need in life?

Moses demanded for a sign from God.  So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A rod.” And He said, “Cast it on the ground.” So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand), that they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

We notice a strange sign in the book of Daniel  chapter  5 , writing on the wall.

When Jesus Christ was born, there was a sign in the sky, His star. “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Jesus said ‘ And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.’

Signs are essential components of Christian living.  God used various signs to confirm His promises and purpose. Abraham’s servant was on an arduous errand. He was to choose a wife for someone who was absent and yet, the wife must be a pleasant one.

The servant sought for a sign and God answered his prayer.  May it be that when I say to a young woman, ‘Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,’ and she says, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too’—let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

Many are our heart desires but, how well do we wait for a confirmation from God before we act? What sign do we see before we do? God is still the business of showing signs but we must be vigilant.

‘Jesus replied, “Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign; but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.’

For what reason do you seek for a sign from God? For what reason(s) do you take a step? What do you want? what do you need?

With what motive do we seek for a sign? A man, crucified with Jesus demanded for a sign but did not get “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

We ought to know the true purpose of God for our lives and a true sign from God before we follow signs. Remember what is written in 2 Corinthians 11: 14  ‘for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.’

If we fail to know the true sign, we shall be a victim of the false sign

Abraham had been obedient to God and so God met him and the point of his need. Isaac got a pleasant wife.
