fight a good fight

prayer 2

GENESIS 32 IN FOCUS

“I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Why would Jacob ask for blessings from a stranger?

How vigilant are you for the most opportunistic time?

How eager are you for blessings?

What problems are you facing now?

Where do you go when you have problems?

Jacob had been battling with hurdles of life day by day. He was faced with problems unending but, God is always a God who provides.

Jacob was lonely but with a problem; how to reconcile with his brother.

2So Jacob’s gifts went on ahead of him, but he himself spent the night in the camp..

That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”

Jacob, though not knowing who he was with, still did perceive that he was with not any ordinary man. It is worth that sometimes we make time in the solitude with God. It is worth that we be alone with our Maker. ‘ so Jacob was left alone’ . We need solutions to the hurdles of our lives but we can only have such solutions only when we wait upon our Almighty God. The Apostle Paul wrote ‘ but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.’

We meet so many opportunities each day we wake up; opportunities that can lift us up to glorious heights. But, though we look at these opportunities, we least see them.

Jacob battled with an unfamiliar man for a purpose. He wanted a new identity. He could have let the man go but, he stood on his grounds for what he wanted.

28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,[f] because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

Fight a good  fight!

We have reasons to spend our time on so many things in life but we must fight a good fight. We must concentrate on things that matter. We must think of things that are distinctive.

We ought to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might to overcome all hurdles of life.

Paul wrote:

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.    Ephesians 6

What hurdle are you facing? How are you solving it?

Jacob stayed alone to meet the angel of God. Jacob took the advantageous moment he had. We ought to be vigilant!

PONDER: until you take a brave and courageous step to solve the problem, you shall always have the problem
