Respond promptly!

prayer 2

GENESIS  35    IN      FOCUS

”Then God said to Jacob, “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”

Jacob’s grandfather responded to God’s call. Abraham left home without even knowing what tangible thing he was going to have. God had only given him a promise

Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing’

The disciples’ of Jesus Christ left their parents and businesses promptly to follow him.

‘And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Then Peter said to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?’

Jonah however refused to heed to a call.

“..“Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.” But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. So he went down to Joppa, found a ship which was going to Tarshish, paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

There are so many of us who are finding life so arduous because of our own desires. Yes! Our desire to do our own will instead of the will of God.

Jacob, responded to God’s will. He moved without asking God reasons.

‘…So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes. Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone.” So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem. Then they set out, and the terror of God fell on the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.’

Obedience is better than sacrifice. God needs our submissiveness. God needs us to submit our will to Him. God needs us to holistically respond to his will and he will take care of the others.

Jesus said ‘For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.’

God will bless us if we obey.  After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram, God appeared to him again and blessed him. 10 God said to him, “Your name is Jacob, but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.” So he named him Israel.’

There are so many ministers of the gospel who own millions of currencies but for the sake of the gospel. There are so many ministers of the gospel who own mansions they couldn’t have built if not for the gospel.

The promises of God are sure. God blessed Jacob for his obedience. God protected Jacob and his family for responding to His voice. ‘Then they set out, and the terror of God fell on the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.

Why do you worry, only do the will of God first, and give the rest to Him and whatever you need, He will supply!

PONDER: when you delay in responding to God’s call, you delay in responding to your real joy and happiness

JESUS IS CALLING

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.’

remember:  TRUST AND OBEY!

HYMN

When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word
What a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will, he abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But his smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
