GENESIS    40     IN    FOCUS

…Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”

THINK   ABOUT    IT

Do you take revenge?

Have you ever mistreated people because of circumstances?

Is it good to be good?

When do we have to be good?

Who deserves our kindness?

There are so many of us who are waiting for the avenue to revenge. There are so many of us who are eagerly awaiting for they that offended us to fall into our hands. There are so many of us who are dwelling much on how people have offended us. There are so many of us holding on to the pain and bitterness of the past. The past shall always be with you if you least let it go! Mind what is in today, focus on what tomorrow brings and let yesterday be yesterday!

Jesus Christ said, ‘But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you’ Matthew 5: 43.

It is awesome to note the heart Joseph was having. This was someone who had been sold into slavery upon consideration by his brothers not to kill him. He met yet another unfortunate incident in his life and he was moved into prison. Joseph could have been dwelling on what was going wrong. He could have been thinking deeply whether his dreams would be realized but, Joseph never did let what was  happening affect his attitude. He remained good regardless of the situation he found himself in!

Joseph had compassion for his fellow inmates regardless all that he had been though.

When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected. So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were in custody with him in his master’s house, “Why do you look so sad today?” “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.” So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said to him, “In my dream I saw a vine in front of me, 10 and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes. 11 Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup and put the cup in his hand.”12 “This is what it means,” Joseph said to him. “The three branches are three days. 13 Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer. 14 But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison. 15 I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.”

16 When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given a favorable interpretation, he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets of bread.[a] 17 In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”   18 “This is what it means,” Joseph said. “The three baskets are three days. 19 Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head and impale your body on a pole. And the birds will eat away your flesh.”  20 Now the third day was Pharaoh’s birthday, and he gave a feast for all his officials. He lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker in the presence of his officials: 21 He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he once again put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand— 22 but he impaled the chief baker, just as Joseph had said to them in his interpretation.   23 The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.

RECALL DAVID

” Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.”  With these words David sharply rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way.”

1 Samuel 24

It could have been the most right time for David to kill the man who had been persecuting him but David did not do that.

We have a choice each day. Yes, we have a choice to let situation control us or we control situation instead! We have a choice to take revenge or we leave revenge for God. Paul wrote  ‘ Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
.

Stay good! Be good! Do good! Think of what is good and live a life that is good for God is good!

You are greater than situation, don’t let situation control you!

PONDER

how can I be good when people, things and situations are not being good to me?

NOTE

JESUS IS COMING SOON!

Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy.” Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

REMEMBER

...But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”…

A HYMN BY:

Lewis Hartsough

I hear Thy welcome voice
That calls me, Lord, to Thee,
For cleansing in Thy precious blood
That flowed on Calvary.

    • Refrain:
      I am coming, Lord,
      Coming now to Thee!
Wash me, cleanse me in the blood
      That flowed on Calvary.

Though coming weak and vile,
Thou dost my strength assure;
Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse,
Till spotless all, and pure.
