EXODUS 1 IN FOCUS
8 Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt. 9 “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous for us.
THINK ABOUT IT
Can God deliver you from oppression?
Life can change! sorrow can turn into joy and joy can turn into sorrow! That is life. The Israelites had freedom because one of their own, Joseph was in authority. The rhythm of their song changed. Their joyful moments turned into a sorrowful moment. The Egyptians changed their friendship terms with the Israelites. 14 They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.
The vicissitudes of life is real. The journey of life can sometimes be very rough and unclear but in all things we must remember the summary of all things. It is written … ‘the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.’
We shall surely attract the attraction of God when we fear Him and obey His commands. He will neither fail us nor forsake us if we fear Him for He is a faithful God.
Though trials may come, He shall strengthen us. He shall deliver us from all our afflictions. A small tuber of yam gets rotten in the soil before it germinates to produce a bigger tuber. Though the Israelites were under oppression, they were there with God.
12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread;
“Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
There shall surely be afflictions for people called according to the will and purpose of God but, The LORD is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones, Not one of them is broken — Psalm 34:19
Let the world present you with all the problems of the world, if only you cling diligently to God, He will make everything work together for your good.
8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. 11 They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil 1 Peter 3
When life changes, God shall remain the same. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is everlasting God. His mighty hand is mighty enough to deliver us from all afflictions and oppressors. We only need to do one thing ; to trust and to obey Him!
How do we prove our trust in God?
Author: John H. Sammis (1887)
When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word
What a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will, he abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But his smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil he doth richly repay;
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor he shows, and the joy he bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet,
Or we will walk by his side in the way;
What he says we will do, where he sends we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
