EXODUS 12 IN FOCUS
2 “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. 3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb[a] for his family, one for each household. 4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat.”
Who smiles because of you?
just think about it
Life is all about caring. It is a paradox to note that the more you keep the more you lose and the more you give, the more you gain. One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. Proverbs 11:24. There are some people who keep their abundance only to cure their ill health with what they kept. There are some people who with hold what they are to give out only to lose what they kept through unthinkable and unimaginable ways and there are some people who give their all out of a true heart and yet obtain what they least expect. Overconcentration is risky, dare to be a giver!
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Where would our survival and existence have been but for the oxygen we receive from plants. God cherishes giving. God upholds sharing in love and sharing out of a true heart ‘’ 6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ‘’ 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
Giving must come from a true heart. Giving must be seen as a solemn responsibility and not a competition or as a means to appear good to mankind. Jesus said, ‘But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing‘. Giving brings relief and sharing enlightens the heart. Caring joins and showing love is life. God takes joy in unity. ‘Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity! it is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.’ — Psalm 133
The Israelite s had been in bondage for years. They had suffered in servitude without any hope of liberation but God heard their cry. Their redemption was on its way. There was a need for a joy to fill their hearts as they prepared to leave the land of slavery.
‘The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 2 ‘ This month is to be for you the first month, the first mmonth of the year. Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man it to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. 4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat.5 The animals you choose must be year – old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight”
We ought to take note of one thing here. 4 If any household is too small for a whole lamb they must share one with their nearest neighbor’
Just imagine how life would look like if we should be sharing the excesses in our homes with they that do not have. There are so many people who find it difficult to to find a days meal yet, there are so many people who have in abundance in their homes with some becoming a waste.
‘’God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
We must not just be recipients but givers! We must not just be keepers but donors! Jesus said ” He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me’
16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life 17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”18 He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” 20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
You do not need to get in abundance before you can share. If you can be a faithful steward of small things, you can be a faithful steward of great things!
True Christianity is action. A true Christian does not just keep the word of God but takes the step to share with others. ‘Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”…
‘Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying, Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, Lift up the fallen, Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.
It is never enough to acquire all acquisition. It is never enough to have all our desires. We must endeavor to give for giving is life. What distinctive things have you giving this year?
Give someone something that goes beyond expectation. ”So the man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and at once the man’s feet and ankles were strengthened.…
Hold the hands of someone and uplift someone before the year ends. Share something distinctive with someone.Feast with someone! Be the smile of someone! You can do it! Now or never!

Rescue the perishing,
Care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one,
Lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.
Rescue the perishing,
Care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful,
Jesus will save.
Though they are slighting Him,
Still He is waiting,
Waiting the penitent child to receive;
Plead with them earnestly,
Plead with them gently;
He will forgive if they only believe.
Down in the human heart,
Crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
Touched by a loving heart,
Wakened by kindness,
Chords that are broken will vibrate once more.
Rescue the perishing,
Duty demands it;
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
Back to the narrow way,
Patiently win them;
Tell the poor wand’rer a Savior has died.
