The Exodus

EXODUS     12    IN  FOCUS

31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the Lord as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.”

THINK ABOUT IT

Each day we wake up, we take so many steps but where are we heading towards?

The journey of life begins with just a step. We are carried in bondage in the womb for nine months. The arena of the womb is however a moment to prepare and develop the body for the journey of life. Some come out of this arena deformed and some come out to start the journey of life well built with all their body organs in good shape.

We take so many steps on earth as we journey through the ups and downs of life. We meet so many things; success, failure, deceptions, doubts,  go through the education system, examinations, moments to acquire properties,  moments to marry, give birth and bring them up,  and all life activities we can think of. Let us take a moment to ask ourselves why we take all these steps! A mission without a vision is mission less. Where are we heading towards with all that we are doing? We must not forget the summary of the whole journey of life    ”here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.” Ecclesiastes 12: 13

Pharaoh least gave God the needed accordance. He least did fear God but when the mighty power of God superseded his canal strength, he gave up the fight and ordered the immediate liberation of God’s chosen people.

29 At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well. 30 Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.

David wrote “Had it not been the LORD who was on our side,” Let Israel now say, “Had it not been the LORD who was on our side When men rose up against us,Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their anger was kindled against us;…  Psalm 124. Who is man to bring down who God has uplifted? The Egyptians did all they could to increase the pain of God’s chosen people ‘ But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites

The power of God is powerful enough to liberate us from all suppression’s and oppression’s, life hurdles which plants doubt in our hearts, rejections and confusion state of life. God is powerful enough to deliver us from the power of  need and being entangled in understandable life situations.

They that were oppressing the Israelites were the very people who urged them to depart without delay. The power of God!  33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!” 34 So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing. 35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. 36 The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.

Is there anything too hard for God?

Only trust and obey His will and you shall see His mighty power! He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Trust and obey! There shall be an ebb to wherever life has taken you to and you shall return to the land of glory! Trust and obey! Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Let us remember also that faith without works is dead! Abraham took  the step to go and sacrifice Isaac having had faith in God and what God could do!

God works with rules. God works with commands. It is the duty of man to fear God and obey His commands. It was a liberation time for the chosen people of God. They were to begin a new journey of life.

’31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the Lord as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.”…… 37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. 38 Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.

The Israelites are gone, we are here! We wake up each day and take steps in the journey of life. Our vision is to make it to heaven but we must remember the Pharaoh of our time, the world! The world would do all things possible to thwart our aim and focus on heaven. If possible, the world would provide us with great riches so as to keep us of our vision.

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Matthew 4

Jesus said ‘Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.‘ If possible, the world will increase your problems so as to deepen your doubt about the power of God. What would you have done if you were Job?

13 One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15 and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

16 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

17 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 19 when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
    and naked I will depart.[c]
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.”

22 In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.  Job 1

Job knew the God he was serving! Job new the journey of life he was taking and nothing could stop him from getting to his focal point. May we remember where we are heading towards in this journey of life and regardless of the wilderness we may meet , may we cling to God and God alone for His strength and mighty power. May we know where we are heading towards in the Exodus of our time!

TRUST AND OBEY

BY: John Henry Sammis(1846-1919)

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
