Jehovah Nissi

prayer 2

EXODUS      17     IN    FOCUS

15 Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner.

Jehovah Nissi! Jehovah Nissi! Jehovah Nissi! The Lord our banner! The Lord our fortress! The Lord our conqueror! Oh how sweet it is to note that we have a Mighty Father. Oh how refreshing it is to note that our redeemer is still alive! Oh how amazing it is to realize that our God fights for us even when we don’t see it!

The Lord is great! The Lord is mighty! He protects us each day! He shields us each moment! He gives us breathe each second. Mighty is our God! Supreme is His power and Majesty! Jehovah reigns! Let His people rejoice. Though we meet the challenges of life, we are convinced that the Lord is our banner! Though we fall down, we know that a mighty hand will uplift us! And though we grow weary, we know that we have a Comforter! God is good!

The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

How can we be free from the woes of the world when we still live in the world? How can we be able to win the battle of life if we stay far away from God? We are at war in all ways. We face the woes of our current world in every step we take. We are entangled in the deceptive and alluring ways of the world each day we wake up but, there is one thing we can do; we ought to draw nearer to the Lord our banner. We ought to absolutely trust and obey our great Warrior. We ought to pray! Apostle Paul wrote,    11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

We shall surely face the Amalekiteof our time. We shall surely meet difficult moments. We shall surely meet double mindedness. We shall surely miss our steps in life, but, in all of these things we ought to remember where our help comes from; Jehovah Nissi!

Moses did not relax, he stood with tenacity and beseeched God for victory. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. We ought to pray without ceasing!

Jehovah Nissi still lives.Jehovah Nissi still answers prayer! Jehovah Nissi is great! What are you facing as a challenge? Pray until something happens. He can bring you victory! He can deliver you! He can be your helper! He can bring the smile! He can do it! Oh yes, He can do it!  Jehovah reigns!

Psalm 54

New International Version(NIV)

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil of David. When the Ziphites had gone to Saul and said, “Is not David hiding among us?”

Save me, O God, by your name;
    vindicate me by your might.
Hear my prayer, O God;
    listen to the words of my mouth.

Arrogant foes are attacking me;
    ruthless people are trying to kill me—
    people without regard for God.

Surely God is my help;
    the Lord is the one who sustains me.

Let evil recoil on those who slander me;
    in your faithfulness destroy them.

I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you;
    I will praise your name, Lord, for it is good.
You have delivered me from all my troubles,
    and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.
