EXODUS         18    IN     FOCUS

17 Moses’ father-in-law replied, “What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice,

Humility! the great ladder to the top. A seed needs to get rotten before it germinates to grow greatly! … Jesus called them aside and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be this way among you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,27and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave—…”

There is power in humility. There is an essence in staying humble. A heavy object never floats on the surface of water. There is power in staying humble!

Moses, a man who had experienced the power of God in a great way humbled himself. He listened to the words of Jethro, his father- in- law in humility! Moses could have been haughty to his father-in -law. Moses could have asked who at all Jethro was to advise him (Moses) when God always speaks to him (Moses) directly   but,  24 Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. 25 He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 26 They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves. 27 Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, and Jethro returned to his own country.

God is pleased with humility! God takes delight in they that have a humble heart! Notwithstanding all that God used Moses to do, Moses humbled himself So Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down and kissed him. They greeted each other and then went into the tent. Moses told his father-in-law about everything the Lord had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake and about all the hardships they had met along the way and how the Lord had saved them.

Jethro never envied what God had done for Moses Jethro was delighted to hear about all the good things the Lord had done for Israel in rescuing them from the hand of the Egyptians. 10 He said, “Praise be to the Lord, who rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and of Pharaoh, and who rescued the people from the hand of the Egyptians.

Be happy  to see others rejoicing and don’t be envious to see others rejoicing! Encourage others to do greater things and don’t be the reason why people will stop living purposeful life that glorifies God! Be delighted to notice that God is blessing someone and don’t plan evil against your neighbor because God is blessing him or her!

Pride kills! Pride leads to had I known! Pride increases problems! Pride disintegrate ! Pride is over-self conscious!  Pride overlooks small things which lead to great things! Pride is the platform for falling! Kill pride before pride kills you!

Think about  King Nebuchadnezzar  20“But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit became so proud that he behaved arrogantly, he was deposed from his royal throne and his glory was taken away from him. He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like the ox; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.     Daniel 5

Cherish humility. Learn to be humble! Learn to serve! Learn to control your heart! Mind your mind! Limit who you think you are and increase what you can do with who you are!Learn to be humble for such pleases God!

Apostle Paul said,

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
    by taking the very nature of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
    and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
    in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
    to the glory of God the Father.

  1. Humility, thou secret vale,
    Unknown to proud in heart;
    Where show’rs of blessing never fail,
    And glories ne’er depart.

    • Refrain:
      Oh, make thy blest abode with me,
      Thou angel of the sky;
      If I may ever dwell with thee,
      My soul shall never die.
  2. Humility, how pure thy place!
    Thou seat of holiness!
    Thou door of entrance into grace
    And everlasting bliss!
  3. Humility, how calm the breast
    That knows thy peace sublime!
    Within thy courts our perfect rest
    Grows sweeter all the time.
  4. Humility, thou shoreless sea
    Of perfect love so deep!
    Thy crystal waters cover me,
    My helpless soul to keep.
