EXODUS 23 IN FOCUS
Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness.2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.
How can we keep shut when we must communicate? How can we express our feelings when we fail to talk? We must talk! Oh Yes we need to let what is inside us be known, but what must we say when we talk? In Apostle Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he wrote ‘All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.’ 1 Corinthians 6.
We can say anything but we must say something. We must say something that pleases God and not because everybody is saying something! The tongue has led so many people to prison. The tongue has disintegrated great bonds and relationships. The tongue has killed so many people. The tongue has collapsed so many businesses and opportunities. The road that connects our emotions and the ears and actions of other people is our tongue! We cannot say we shall not talk! We shall definitely talk each day we wake up. What must we say from dawn to dusk? What must we do from sunrise to sunset? The tongue can cause a great havoc. The tongue can bring so many things to a halt!
If you shall do what everybody is doing, you shall become what everybody is becoming!
James wrote ‘ Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.’
How can someone know your secret when it has not come out of your tongue? Mind your tongue!
God is greatly interested in the peaceful and harmonious living of His people. He said to the Israelites’,
4 “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to return it. 5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help them with it.
6 “Do not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits. 7 Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty.
8 “Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the innocent.
9 “Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt.
We serve a living God. We serve Jehovah Nissi, the Lord our Banner! If only we shall obey His commands, we shall see His mighty hand leading us in all our endeavor. He did it then and He will do it today. He said to them 20 “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. 21 Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion, since my Name is in him. 22 If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you. 23 My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out”
He has promise and He will do, for all His promises are Yes and Amen. He said to Joshua that He will not leave nor forsake him! Oh yes! It is a joy to know the He is the same yesterday, today and He shall be the same tomorrow!!! Halleluiah !
He is an unseen fighter! He fights for us even when we slumber! God is Mighty, let His people rejoice! Let His people sing Hosanna! Let His people keep calm as they face the storms of life! He sees everything and He knows everything! He cares for us! May we praise Him with our tongues! He is a mighty God!!!
He said ‘
27 “I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run. 28 I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. 29 But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.
31 “I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give into your hands the people who live in the land, and you will drive them out before you. 32 Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods. 33 Do not let them live in your land or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”
All we need to do is to be careful with our tongues! All we ought to do is to be diligent in our ways! All we must do is to trust and obey His commands and what He can do for us without doubting His power! Faith; what you have not seen but you believe! If only we can comfortably relax in a car or air craft with the hope of getting to our destination safely and commit our lives into the hands of the driver or pilot who might sleep or slumber, then we must trust in God!
If you want to do good to God, do good to men! If your tongue doesn’t make you, it will mar you! If your tongue doesn’t give you fulfilment, it shall give you regrets . If your life doesn’t please God, it displeases Him!
Why do you say what you say? Why do you do what you do?
When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word
What a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will, he abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But his smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil he doth richly repay;
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor he shows, and the joy he bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet,
Or we will walk by his side in the way;
What he says we will do, where he sends we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
