Because of people…

EXODUS   32     IN   FOCUS

19 When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.

How can we live without people? What do you do because of people?  People are the very root cause of the woes of mankind and the very reason why we fail to do the will of God according to His purpose. People can tempt others to the very limit of their patience but there should always be restrain! Jesus said ‘Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!’ Matthew 18.

Moses was doing the will of God. He sacrificed his entire life in obedience to the call of God and dedicated his strength to embark on an arduous errand but the people did detestable things ! They worshiped idols!

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’

Moses had to embark on the journey all over again because of the people. They caused his anger  and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.

Jesus Christ came to meet similar issue,  13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.  John 2

People don’t mind doing what pleases themselves and gives them satisfaction regardless of how it displeases God. We ought to be careful with people or else we may stumble because of people. We ought to be careful or we also do things because of people. We ought not to let people be the reason for our action but the word of God! Jesus Christ based on His Fathers will do act,  he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”

Because of people, many people have done so many bad things in regrettably  life. People can cause anger; anger that is capable of leading others into murder! People can be disobedient; disobedience that is capable of turning things around! People can speak evil; evil that is evil enough to tarnish the image and reputation of others! Beware of people and don’t do things because of people but because of the Word of God!

They asked Jesus in Matthew 22  36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Jesus said ‘44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you’

Regardless of what the Israelites did, Moses found a reason to forgive them and interceded for them!

30 The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”31 So Moses went back to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold. 32 But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.”
