The glory of God

EXODUS   40    IN   FOCUS

36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted.

The glory of God is all we need in this our adulterous generation. The Israelites could not go without it! God was with them and His glory was their shield. Where are we heading towards? We need the glory of God! We need the glory of God to do exploits. We need the glory of God to take the journey of life, never falling or fainting! The glory of God can change things and make our lives a glorious one! The glory of God!!!

Then the Lord said to Moses: “Set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month. Place the ark of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain. Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.

God works with rules and God is pleased with they that are obedient to His rules. There is always something that attracts something and our obedience to the rules and commands of God can attract His utmost glory upon our lives. He is a living God and He is a faithful God!

The Israelites obeyed Him. They built the tabernacle according to the preference of God and the glory of God dwelled upon it. They obeyed God and they attracted the glory of God.

22 Moses placed the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain 23 and set out the bread on it before the Lord, as the Lord commanded him.24 He placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle 25 and set up the lamps before the Lord, as the Lord commanded him.26 Moses placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the curtain 27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord commanded him.28 Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. 29 He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as the Lord commanded him.

There is a tent we are making now; the life we live each moment of time; thought, words and deeds! We need to attract the glory of God and we need the glory of God. We must be careful in our words though and deeds so as to attract the glory of God. Without His glory, we are nothing! We need to obediently go by the rules and commands of God as prescribed by our Lord and master Jesus Christ for a glorious life and living. We need to live a life of good fragrance that can attract the glory of God. We need the glory of God, but our obedience to His calling and work is what will make us experience His glory in utmost!

34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. 38 So the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

May we carefully live our lives as a precious present to be presented to our noble Master. May our lives be an epitome of God’s glory now and forever more!!!

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

HYMN

The United Methodist Hymnal Number 160
Text: Edward H. Plumptre, 1821-1891
Music: Arthur H. Messiter, 1834-1916

. Rejoice, ye pure in heart;
rejoice, give thanks and sing;
your glorious banner wave on high,
the cross of Christ your King.
Refrain:
Rejoice, rejoice,
rejoice, give thanks and sing.

2. Your clear hosannas raise,
and alleluias loud;
whilst answering echoes upward float,
like wreaths of incense cloud.
(Refrain)

3. Yes, on through life’s long path,
still chanting as ye go;
from youth to age, by night and day,
in gladness and in woe.
(Refrain)

4. At last the march shall end;
the wearied ones shall rest;
the pilgrims find their heavenly home,
Jerusalem the blest.
(Refrain)

5. Praise God who reigns on high,
the Lord whom we adore,
the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
one God forevermore.
(Refrain)
