‘Across’ Jordan; behold, our King comes..

Then the king returned and went as far as the Jordan.

Now the men of Judah had come to Gilgal to go out and meet the king and bring him across the Jordan.

JOURNEYING FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION

(2 SAMUEL 19)

He met the storm when crossing to the other side, but He did something; 39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

Elisha needed to get back so to continue duty, but no way out, 13Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over. We sometimes meet that ‘impossible’ 26 circumstance that renders our hope and lives nothing to be joyful of, but that is when we need to take that ‘cloth’ of faith 16 to get back to duty!

The king returns; he returns to reign I to the ‘end’. The king returns; he returns to give redemption 38 32. Behold our King comes 17 17! The king returns; he returns to show pardon 11 23 1 . The king returns; he returns to bring joy to the hearts of the ‘ Mephibosheths’ 14 24 . David, a man with a heart for people. The people were happy David was returning, because they knew he would be there for them; to fear God 2 in his reign as a king, and to remember the forgotten! David their redeemer; Jesus Christ our ‘all’ and Savior! There, there is, an undone task for us; an unending call of duty that demands our ‘all’; as Fanny Crosby tells us to,

 Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.

Refrain:
Rescue the perishing,
care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful,
Jesus will save.

2 Though they are slighting Him, still He is waiting,
waiting the penitent child to receive;
plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently,
He will forgive if they only believe. [Refrain]

3 Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
chords that are broken will vibrate once more. [Refrain]

4 Rescue the perishing, duty demands it;
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
back to the narrow way patiently win them,
tell the poor wanderer a Savior has died. [Refrain]

Joy filled the heart of Zaccheous 6 ; and Joshua had his clothes changed 4. Something good always happens in the presence of a 2 good king! Sins are forgiven; the ‘arrested’ 11 gets pardon and joy is restored, but we ought to meet the king ‘rightly’, for that grace 1 11! When Shimei son of Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell prostrate before the king 19and said to him, “May my lord not hold me guilty. Do not remember how your servant did wrong on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem. May the king put it out of his mind. 20For I your servant know that I have sinned, but today I have come here as the first from the tribes of Joseph to come down and meet my lord the king.”23

It is written, 1Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 2Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. He came sincerely for pardon, and it was granted unto him 19 9 15 .When sin rules the mind, true freedom is ‘questioned’ until there comes a pardon and redemption. Hope for the sinner; rememberance for the ‘forgotten’; a ‘different’ life to live; Jesus is calling; true redemption, pardon and eternal freedom for free! We only need to humbly come as we are 24 14 ; Jesus Christ is calling; why waiting when tomorrow is uncertain. He is calling; He is calling; Lewis Hartsough response in his words,

1. I hear Thy welcome voice
That calls me, Lord, to Thee,
For cleansing in Thy precious blood
That flowed on Calvary.

I am coming, Lord!
Coming now to Thee!
Wash me, cleanse me in the blood
That flowed on Calvary!

2. Tho’ coming weak and vile,
Thou dost my strength assure;
Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse,
Till spotless all, and pure.

I am coming, Lord!
Coming now to Thee!
Wash me, cleanse me in the blood
That flowed on Calvary!

3. ‘Tis Jesus calls me on
To perfect faith and love,
To perfect hope and peace and trust,
For earth and heav’n above.

I am coming, Lord!
Coming now to Thee!
Wash me, cleanse me in the blood
That flowed on Calvary!

4. All hail! atoning blood!
All hail! redeeming grace!
All hail! the gift of Christ our Lord,
Our strength and righteousness.

I am coming, Lord!
Coming now to Thee!
Wash me, cleanse me in the blood
That flowed on Calvary!

Some people always seek the destruction and death of others, and they forget Mordicai and Haman are good examples for us 8 . Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this? He cursed the Lord’s anointed.”

22David replied, “What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? What right do you have to interfere? … Who thinks he has that right to question the things of God and of the Spirit of The Lord Jesus Christ, because of ‘fallibles’ 26 9 16 16 ? Let such take heed, lest he goes with the very wrath of God 32 and meet the ‘Saul to Paul’s’ experience on the way. The law of the flesh condemns, but the law of The Holy Spirit of God grants redemption and eternal freedom for the saints of God 1. 30

39So all the people crossed the Jordan, and then the king crossed over. The king kissed Barzillai and bid him farewell, and Barzillai returned to his home.

We may surely meet that Jordan of obstructions in our journey of life, and we shall surely somewhat along the journey of life be met with hatred or acceptance, but no matter what, we ought not to forget our faith in God Almighty and our true duty to HIS KINGDOM! The king is not yet in his palace, yet someone seeks another’s death 21 ; so it is in our days, many seek the fall, destruction 14 and death of others, 2 and they forget lessons from the past with Mordicai and Haman an example. 21 Many seek the Lord’s favor for different agenda 19Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”
